I would evenly divide them among the percentage ie…
33%—– on how one plays
33%—–on how ones opponent plays
33%——on luck
1%——insane luck
I play a lot on line, so I can’t speak for live play…but I tend to feel my play directly effects my outcome…sometimes more than the percentage above. If I’m patient enough, and I play my opponents properly, then all I have to concern myself over is the relative small percentage of being unlucky.
I figure your 66% likely to be a top contender if you are a better player than the people at the table and you’re not doing dumb plays yourself. There’s a reason why top tables have so many familiar faces. Anyone depending on luck is really not going to win alot…but you have to take chances. The best players play by the percentages and how their opponents react…so it’s not really luck in those circumstances.
So you see luck is relatively small in comparison to your skills and your opponent’s skills.
