We are having a Hold ‘Em Tournament tomorrow night and I really wanted to put something together other than chips/dip or veggie trays. Realistic ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Stick with finger foods for a card party. Here are my recipes that I like for parties.
Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms
(I don’t have a picture of this one.)
These are the easiest and yummiest appetizers. I make this all the time and it’s so good. I get requested to make these at all our parties. .
Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms
1/2 pound ground pork sausage (I chop mine up in the food processor so it’s very fine)
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (8 ounce) package fresh mushrooms, stems removed
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350.
Place sausage in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain and transfer to a medium bowl.
Blend cream cheese with the sausage. Stuff mushroom caps with the cream cheese and sausage mixture.
Arrange stuffed mushroom caps on a medium baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes and then put under the broiler for 2 minutes to brown.
I added the following changes to the recipe.
I fry up garlic with my sausage and add onion powder to the mixture.
I also melt some butter and mix it with seasoned bread crumbs and grated parmesan cheese. I then take the mushrooms once filled and dip it into the bread crumbs.

Freezer section of the grocery store - TGI Fridays appetizers are good and they’re easy - that way you can concentrate on getting together everything you need for the tournament.
If you’re really wanting to make food, you could always do fruit kabobs /yogurt or even some paper wrapped chicken (2″ pieces of chicken marinated in sesame and soy sauce, wrapped in wax paper like candy and skillet fried in 1″ oil in fry pan.

People dive into a fruit plate with some fruit dip. I had a 3 melon and pineapple stick tray, I put it together myself and bought the dip off the shelf in the produce section. There were 6 of us at the party, and there was less than a cup of fruit left. It was a huge deep divided bowl of fruit.
Kraft”s website has a Tuscan cheese spread that looks great, it has sour cream, cream cheese , onions and black olives and sun dried tomatoes .
I have found several appetizers on allrecipes that I want to try.
Try the Velveeta website, there is one with chillies, spinach, Rotel canned chillies and tomato, and bacon.
And with Velveeta you can dump in a can of your fave chili or some salsa, and melt it, serve with appropriate chips.
Try two soft 8 oz pkgs of Philly, one jar of Kraft Old English cheese spread, 8 oz of Cheez Whiz, and a 1/2 tsp each of garlic and onion powder, throw it all in the mixer and blend until it is all incorporated, and put it is a plastic lidded storage bowl over night. This one is my fave, and I have learned to put in more garlic powder, but it reeks of it, so don’t get heavy handed the first time you make it. Serve with Ritz crackers
Either Friday’s or the store brand of spinach artichoke cheese dip is wonderful, try it on garlic toast slices, I just use the stuff in a box in the frozen food section that is already cut in slices.
Crab cakes with a sauce would be yum, just some cold shrimp with cocktail sauce is always a treat for me.

qbpres, I hear what your saying your sick of the normal run of the mill.
If you can get your hands on some rice paper you can make those Asian Spring Rolls, all you need to do is have all your ingredients prepared,
You will only need the following to make them:
Shredded carrot
ripped romaine lettuce
cooked shrimp
green onion
Thin slices cucumber
fresh cilantro.
Method: in a shallow dish soak your rice paper, place on your cutting board. Starting from the end close to you, center in a line two or three shrimp the bigger the shrimp are the less you add. Add a couple of romaine lettuce, shredded carrot, your slithers of green onion, cucumber, and a little cilantro. Now here you can add just a very very small amount of salt.
Start rolling carefully so that the rice paper does not split, tucking in the sides once rolled place in glass serving dish flap down that way it will help seal. For dipping sauce you can use a seafood cocktail, but I find a soy dijon mustard sauce and a sweet chili sauce for dipping is ample.
That is one idea,
Chris
